Philadelphia 76ers rookie guard Jared McCain offered a public update on his recovery process during the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery, saying his rehab is progressing steadily.
“Going great. Going great. Slowly getting back. Not trying to rush back of course, but just taking my time and getting done with rehab soon,” McCain said.
The 21-year-old was sidelined for the remainder of the 2024–25 season after suffering a meniscus tear in his left knee in December.
Before the injury, McCain appeared in 23 games and averaged 15.3 points, 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game while shooting 46.0% from the field and 38.3% from three-point range.
He had a breakout performance on November 13, posting a career-high 34 points and 10 assists in a loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
McCain was later named the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for November, becoming the first 76ers player to earn the award since Ben Simmons in 2018.
Philadelphia selected McCain with the 16th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft and signed him to a four-year deal on July 4.
His promising rookie campaign was cut short on December 14, when the team announced the injury.
Philadelphia ended the season 24–58, marking their worst record since 2016–17 and the first time they missed the playoffs in eight years.
McCain was one of the few bright spots in a disappointing season that saw the 76ers struggle despite the addition of All-Star forward Paul George.
