Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jared McCain will be out indefinitely after suffering a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee.
McCain reported feeling soreness following the team’s game against the Indiana Pacers on Friday, and an MRI confirmed the tear.
As a result, the promising young guard will require surgery to address the injury, which has left his status for the remainder of the season uncertain.
The guard had played in every game for the 76ers this season, quickly becoming a key contributor. The 2024 first-round pick enjoyed a strong rookie campaign, averaging 15.3 points per game on 46% shooting.
Additionally, he had been impressive from long range, shooting 38.3% on 5.8 three-point attempts per game. His stellar start had placed him as one of the top candidates for the Rookie of the Year award this season, adding to the disappointment of his injury.
This setback is a major blow to the 76ers’ backcourt depth, as McCain had been a reliable scoring option and a spark plug for the team.
As the franchise now faces a potential gap in their rotation, the player’s absence could have a ripple effect on the team’s offensive flow and overall performance.
The 76ers will need to rely on their veteran players and other rising stars to fill the void left by McCain while he recovers from surgery.
