When asked about the idea of trading for a veteran star, potentially one past his peak, the Miami Heat president Pat Riley didn’t dismiss the notion.
While he declined to address any specific players, such as rumored target Kevin Durant, Riley said the right older player could still make a significant impact.
“If that player is the right name and the contract is the right length, I still think an aging player can play,” he explained.
Riley also made clear that leadership and character matter just as much as talent.
“If that talent can help and he’s humble, that’s fine. If it translates to winning, that’s all that counts.”
The message: Miami is open for business, but only on its terms.
