Pat Spencer, a key bench player for the Golden State Warriors, made a notable impact in Game 1 and is expected to play a larger role going forward, according to Marcus Thompson II and Shakeia Taylor of The Athletic.
Despite not being the most obvious standout player, Spencer’s contribution to the team has not gone unnoticed, especially by his teammate Draymond Green.
“Pat is a damn good basketball player,” Green remarked. “And I know he doesn’t look like it. He doesn’t just jump off the page at you when you see him in a basketball jersey. I don’t think the No. 61 helps him. But he is one of the toughest guys on this team, and that includes myself.”
Spencer, who made a name for himself as a lacrosse star before transitioning to basketball, has had a remarkable journey to reach the Warriors’ regular roster.
After working his way up through the G League, he earned a spot on the team and quickly proved his worth. His performance in Game 1 was a key example of his value, as he brought much-needed energy to Golden State.
Spencer has played 2 seasons for the Warriors. He has averaged 2.5 points in 29 regular-season games.
Vice president of basketball engagement Alvin Gentry will remain with the Kings, plus more notes from the Pacific. https://t.co/A8SObVh2Y7
