Deni Avdija reflected on the challenges of adjusting to a new team after being traded from Washington to Portland early in the season.
“It was hard to adjust,” he acknowledged during his end-of-season media availability, as relayed by Johnny Askounis of Eurohoops.
However, once he settled in, Avdija said he “didn’t look back,” embracing his new environment with the Trail Blazers.
His performance on the court mirrored that transition.
In his first 13 games with Portland, Avdija struggled to find rhythm, averaging 9.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while shooting just 34.6% from the field and 23.3% from beyond the arc.
But once he found his footing, his numbers surged.
Over the next 59 games, he put up an impressive 18.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per contest, shooting nearly 50% overall and 38.5% from three.
His post-All-Star break stretch was even stronger, as Avdija elevated his game further, averaging 23.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 5.2 assists on highly efficient shooting splits (.508/.417/.782) across 20 games – signaling a breakout second half to the season and a promising future in Portland.
