As the Denver Nuggets prepare to launch their search for a new president of basketball operations, two notable names are already emerging as potential candidates: Tim Connelly and Matt Lloyd.
Connelly, who previously held a leading front office role in Denver before departing in 2022, remains a strong possibility despite currently working as the president of basketball operations for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
His current contract reportedly includes an opt-out clause, though sources suggest that Minnesota’s new ownership duo – Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez – are prepared to make a strong push to retain him.
Connelly’s move to Minnesota came with a substantial pay increase, reportedly a five-year deal worth $40 million, compared to what he had earned with the Nuggets.
Matt Lloyd, meanwhile, also made the move to Minnesota in 2022 to join Connelly after a long run as a respected executive with the Orlando Magic.
Given his close working relationship with Connelly and his reputation around the league, Lloyd is expected to be considered as well during Denver’s hiring process.
