Sacramento Kings’ key sixth man, Malik Monk, is expected to be sidelined for at least two weeks due to a calf strain. This comes at a particularly unfortunate time for the team, with the postseason fast approaching.

Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee reports the situation couldn’t have come at a worse moment.

Kings’ interim coach Doug Christie expressed his frustration, noting, “It’s super unfortunate because we depend on him a lot. In many ways, he is the leader of the team, definitely on the emotional side.

“A lot of the energy, the things that go on in the locker room, practice. He’s the head of the snake in many ways. He’ll still be around, obviously, but two weeks is two weeks and we need him. We need Malik’s energy, his shooting, his athleticism.”

The coach further emphasized that while Monk will still contribute off the court, his presence on the floor – especially during such a crucial stretch – will be sorely missed.
