The Boston Celtics are reportedly more inclined to trade Kristaps Porzingis or Jrue Holiday in the future rather than Derrick White, according to league sources speaking with Jake Fischer.
White was acquired by the Celtics at the 2022 trade deadline from the San Antonio Spurs, while Porzingis and Holiday joined the team during the 2023 offseason.
Fischer notes that White is believed to hold the most trade value of the three, should the Celtics decide to make him available after the playoffs.
However, despite this, his name was not mentioned at all during Fischer’s reporting of this story.
White is viewed as one of the least likely players to be traded, ranking just behind Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in terms of his security with the team.
Fischer also adds that several league insiders with knowledge of the Celtics’ strategy have made it clear that Tatum and Brown will remain the cornerstone players of the franchise for the foreseeable future.
Porzingis, who has an expiring $30.7 million salary for the 2025-26 season, could be seen as a valuable trade asset due to his potential as movable salary.
While Porzingis played an important role in the Celtics’ 2023-24 championship push, his injury history has raised concerns, with frequent setbacks since last year’s playoffs.
Trading him could also help the Celtics save approximately $218 million in taxes.
Holiday, who is owed $104 million over the next three years, is regarded as a standout defensive player, but his trade could open up opportunities for other players, such as Payton Pritchard and Baylor Scheierman, to take on expanded roles and mitigate the impact of his departure.
