Former NBA star and Sacramento Kings standout Mike Bibby has agreed to become the next men’s basketball head coach at Sacramento State, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Monday.
His agent, Tyler Glass of CSE Talent, recently negotiated the deal with school officials.
Bibby replaces interim coach Michael Czepil, who led the Hornets to a 7-25 record last season. Sacramento State has struggled historically, never making an NCAA tournament since joining Division I in 1991-92.
Bibby, a 14-year NBA veteran, played a key role in the Kings’ early 2000s success and averaged 14.7 points, 5.5 assists, and 3.1 rebounds over his career.
Before his NBA days, he led Arizona to the 1997 NCAA championship. As a coach, he guided Shadow Mountain High School to five state titles from 2013 to 2019.
His hiring aligns with Sac State president Luke Wood’s push to revamp athletics, especially with a new basketball facility opening next fall.
