Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen believes Chicago Bulls rookie Matas Buzelis has a promising future in the NBA.
“As a rookie, you’ve always got some work that you can do,” Markkanen said, per Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic. “But I think he’s got the skill and the toughness and, obviously, the athleticism, as we’ve seen. I think he has a huge upside. And what I’ve heard from talking to his teammates, (Nikola Vucevic) and those guys, is that he’s a hard worker and a great kid. I think he’s going to be good.”
Buzelis, a 20-year-old forward, is averaging 7.4 points and 3.2 rebounds in 17.1 minutes per game this season. When starting, his production improves to 12.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2 assists per game while playing 26.3 minutes.
The Bulls currently hold a 29-39 record, placing them ninth in the Eastern Conference as they fight for a spot in the Play-In Tournament. Despite Chicago’s struggles, Buzelis has shown flashes of potential, earning praise from players around the league.
With Markkanen’s endorsement and steady development, the Lithuanian rookie could play a key role in Chicago’s future plans.
