Former Los Angeles Lakers point guard Chris Duhon believes LeBron James may extend his playing career long enough to team up with his youngest son, Bryce James.
In an interview with Action Network, Duhon suggested that the Lakers’ blockbuster trade for Luka Dončić could give James added motivation to stay in the league.
“I was shocked,” Duhon said of the trade. “Luka and LeBron James on the same team will definitely make them true contenders. It’s possible that the trade may even help prolong LeBron’s playing career. You can’t put anything past LeBron. Now he may think of having a chance to play with his other son, Bryce.”
James has already achieved a historic milestone by sharing the court with his eldest son, Bronny James, after the Lakers selected him with the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. The possibility of playing with Bryce, who committed to the University of Arizona on January 1, could provide further motivation to continue his career.
James, who turns 41 in December, has previously stated his desire to play alongside his children in the NBA. If Bryce plays just one season in college, he could be draft-eligible in 2026, meaning James would need to extend his career for at least two more seasons beyond his current contract.
Duhon also praised first-year Lakers head coach JJ Redick, crediting him for handling the pressure that comes with leading a team featuring two superstars.
“JJ Redick is doing a great job considering the position he’s in and the pressure he has to deal with. You can tell he’s very prepared and that he’s already gotten the respect from his team,” Duhon said.
James, already in his 22nd NBA season, continues to play at a high level, averaging 25.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 8.5 assists per game.
With Dončić now in Los Angeles, the Lakers are positioning themselves as serious contenders, potentially extending James’ championship window and opening the door for a historic father-son duo with Bryce.
