According to Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News, there are currently no signs that the Dallas Mavericks are seriously considering shutting down Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, or Daniel Gafford for the remainder of the season.
Despite their ongoing injury concerns, the team appears committed to keeping them in the lineup as long as a postseason opportunity remains within reach.
Townsend reports that if any or all of the three big men are healthy enough to return while the Mavericks are still mathematically in contention for a play-in or playoff spot, they will be available to play.
This update follows a recent report that speculated it might be in the Mavericks’ best long-term interest to sideline these players for the rest of the season.
That argument stemmed from the team’s difficult position in the standings, coupled with the season-ending injury to star guard Kyrie Irving.
“We know how good we can be when everyone’s healthy,” guard Dante Exum said. “But that’s one of the big things about the NBA: timing. Timing is everything.
“Runs and staying healthy during the season and going into playoffs, that’s a big part, and it’s something that we’re gonna have to figure out, quick.”
