Basketball Australia has officially appointed Washington Wizards assistant Adam Caporn as the new head coach of the Boomers, succeeding Brian Goorjian.
Caporn becomes the 10th head coach in Boomers history and steps into the role after serving as an assistant since 2017. His appointment follows an extensive six-month selection process led by a panel of industry specialists, including Australian basketball legend Andrew Bogut.
A former head coach at Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence, Caporn has been instrumental in developing Australia’s top talent, including NBA players Josh Giddey and Dyson Daniels. His coaching background also includes a stint at Saint Mary’s College before transitioning to the NBA.
“It is an incredible honor to be part of the Boomers program,” Caporn said. “To step into the role of head coach is truly a dream come true. I’m excited to get to work, building a team that will represent Australia with pride and continue to strengthen the Boomers’ great legacy and culture.”
Boomers center Jock Landale praised Caporn’s appointment, emphasizing his deep connection to the program. “I’m over the moon for Adam Caporn,” Landale said. “He represents everything it is to be a Boomer and a leader of this program. He has intelligence and expertise on the court and has earned the respect of the group.”
Basketball Australia also introduced a structural change by appointing Melbourne United coach Dean Vickerman as associate head coach. Vickerman will step in as head coach if Caporn’s NBA commitments create scheduling conflicts.
The full coaching staff will be confirmed before the Boomers compete in the FIBA Asia Cup in Jeddah this August.
