Houston Rockets guard Fred VanVleet has been sidelined for 15 of the last 16 games due to persistent right ankle issues.
However, coach Ime Udoka is optimistic about his return shortly, as reported by Sam Warren of The Houston Chronicle.
Udoka mentioned that VanVleet could potentially return to the lineup either Monday against Orlando or Wednesday against Phoenix.
VanVleet had previously missed 11 games due to an ankle strain, only to re-injure the ankle when he stepped on an official’s foot during his first game back.
Despite the setbacks, Udoka noted that VanVleet has been “getting some good work in” as he continues to recover.
Ultimately, the timing of his return will depend on his pain tolerance, with Udoka indicating that the guard is progressing but must still manage discomfort as he works his way back to full health.
VanVleet has played 9 seasons for the Raptors and Rockets. He has averaged 15.0 points, 5.7 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in 536 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 1 All-Star game and has won 1 NBA championship.
