Cam Whitmore and Reed Sheppard seized the moment in Monday’s game against Oklahoma City, delivering standout performances for the Houston Rockets despite the team being shorthanded.
With five key rotation players unavailable, the two young talents stepped up in a big way, proving their potential when given extended minutes, Kelly Iko of The Athletic reports.
Whitmore put together a dominant all-around effort, tallying 27 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and three blocks, showcasing his ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor.
Meanwhile, Sheppard provided an offensive spark with 25 points and five assists, demonstrating his scoring touch and playmaking ability.
Both players have been on the fringe of Houston’s rotation in recent weeks, struggling to carve out consistent roles.
However, with the Rockets forced to rely on their depth, Whitmore and Sheppard made the most of their opportunity, proving they could contribute at a high level when called upon.
“It felt great,” Sheppard said. “Just getting the chance to be out there and play. It was a lot of fun getting a rhythm and flow, up and down. Being able to knock down some shots and get some assists.
“Really fun game. We didn’t win and that part sucks, but being out there with the guys and battling was fun.”
Their performances could give head coach Ime Udoka something to think about as he looks to solidify the team’s rotation moving forward.
