Quentin Grimes, once seen as a complementary player rather than a scoring threat, has quickly made an impact with the Sixers. Before his trade from Dallas last month, he had just two 30-point games in 215 career outings.

Since arriving in Philadelphia, he has matched that feat in nine games, including a career-high 44 points on 18-of-24 shooting in Friday’s win over Golden State.

After scoring 20 by halftime, Grimes knew he was in for a big night.

“I’ve had 20-point halves before,” he told The Philadelphia Inquirer. “But in the third, I ran off 11 straight and thought, ‘Okay, I’m feeling it tonight for sure.’”

Set to become a restricted free agent this summer, Grimes is playing some of his best basketball, averaging 16.8 points on 51.8% shooting (41.1% from three). The Sixers acquired him and a second-round pick in exchange for Caleb Martin and a second-rounder.

Speaking to HoopsHype, Grimes admitted the trade caught him off guard.

“I was kind of shocked, knowing how well I had been playing and contributing,” he said. “We had a really good group in Dallas, so it was surprising. But there’s a great group of guys here too.”

Grimes has played 4 seasons for 4 teams, including the Knicks and 76ers. He has averaged 9.2 points and 2.9 rebounds in 225 regular-season games.
