Philadelphia 76ers veteran guard Eric Gordon is set to undergo surgery on his right wrist on Wednesday, according to Derek Bodner of PHLY Sports. The team has not yet provided a timeline for his recovery.
Gordon has been sidelined since February 9 due to what was initially diagnosed as a sprained right wrist. After seeking opinions from multiple specialists, the decision was made to move forward with surgery.
His absence is yet another setback in what has been a disappointing season for the Sixers, who are currently on an eight-game losing streak and have fallen 17 games below .500.
The 36-year-old guard has played in 39 games this season, including 13 starts, averaging 6.8 points and 1.7 assists in 19.7 minutes per game.
Gordon joined Philadelphia last summer on a two-year veteran’s minimum contract, which includes a $3,468,960 player option for next season. Given his injury status, he may be more likely to opt into his contract rather than test free agency.
His injury was one of the factors that led the Sixers to recently sign Lonnie Walker to bolster their backcourt depth.
