The NBA All-Star Game will transition to NBC starting next season as part of the league’s newly negotiated media rights agreements.
With this shift, the NBA is expected to collaborate with NBC on potential modifications to the All-Star Game format, aiming to enhance the event’s competitiveness and entertainment value.
One proposed format would retain the mini-tournament concept introduced this year but introduce a fresh twist.
Instead of three teams composed of selected All-Stars, the new format would feature four distinct squads: two teams consisting of U.S.-born All-Stars, a team composed of international All-Stars, and a fourth team made up of players who were considered All-Star snubs – those who narrowly missed selection but are still highly talented.
This season, the NBA structured the All-Star Game by dividing the 24 selected players into three separate eight-man teams.
The fourth team in this year’s mini-tournament comprised the winners from the Rising Stars Challenge, a competition showcasing the league’s most promising young players.
