Michael C. Wright of ESPN offers an inside look at Victor Wembanyama’s debut All-Star appearance, shedding light on the preparations the San Antonio Spurs made for the young star.
According to Wright, the team took extra steps to ensure Wembanyama was at his best for the weekend, flying in their massage therapist, physical therapist, and performance coach to San Francisco to guide him through his usual pregame routine.
Wembanyama, determined to succeed in every event he participated in, wanted to bring his A-game to All-Star Weekend.
One of the most memorable moments came during Saturday’s skills challenge, where Wembanyama and his teammate, Chris Paul, attempted to take advantage of a loophole in the competition’s rules.
The duo’s strategy was to intentionally miss their required shot attempts as quickly as possible, ultimately resulting in their disqualification. Despite the outcome, Wembanyama didn’t regret the approach.
“I don’t regret it,” the first-time All-Star shared. “I thought it was a good idea.”
