Brad Stevens publicly stated that he is not interested in becoming the next head coach of Indiana University.

Stevens, who was born and raised in Indiana, first gained national attention as the head coach of Butler University, where he led the team to two consecutive NCAA championship games.

His success at Butler paved the way for his jump to the NBA, where he took over as the head coach of the Boston Celtics in 2013.

After eight seasons as the Celtics’ head coach, Stevens transitioned to a front-office role in 2021, becoming the team’s president of basketball operations.

Under his leadership, the Celtics built a championship-caliber roster, ultimately winning the NBA title in 2024. This achievement further solidified Stevens’ reputation as one of the most respected figures in professional basketball.

Speculation about Stevens potentially returning to his home state to coach Indiana University intensified following the announcement that Mike Woodson will step down as the Hoosiers’ head coach at the end of the current season.

However, Stevens put those rumors to rest by reaffirming his commitment to the Celtics.

“I thoroughly appreciate being a Celtic and love the people I get to work with every day,” Stevens told Field of 68. His statement emphasized his satisfaction with his current role and his deep connection to the Celtics organization.

Despite his ties to Indiana and his collegiate coaching success, it appears Stevens is fully focused on his executive duties in Boston, with no plans to return to the sidelines – at least not in the college ranks.
