Kevin Durant recently spoke out about the Phoenix Suns’ inclusion of him in trade discussions. Despite being caught off guard by the reports, Durant made it clear he remains focused on the team’s success.
“I didn’t see it coming, but the organization got to do what they got to do for the betterment of their organization,” Durant said. “Even if I’m blindsided or not, it doesn’t matter. That’s part of the business.”
Durant emphasized his loyalty to the Suns, explaining that if the team decides to move him, he will respect their decision. “Whoever calls me and tells me I need to go, then I got to go,” Durant added. “I wanted to stay here and figure this thing out and see this thing through.”
The rumors of Durant’s potential trade began after reports surfaced that the Suns had been exploring offers for him. The Suns have struggled to finalize a deal involving Bradley Beal and have pursued Jimmy Butler to complement their existing core, including Devin Booker.
However, Durant has made it clear that a return to his former team, the Golden State Warriors, is not something he’s interested in. Despite his disinterest, multiple teams have reached out to the Suns about the possibility of acquiring the star forward.
Durant, who is eligible for a contract extension this offseason, has been playing at a high level this season. He is currently averaging 26.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game in 39 appearances for Phoenix.
At 36 years old, Durant continues to prove he remains one of the best players in the NBA, and the Suns have leaned heavily on his production this season. Durant is earning $51.2 million this year and is scheduled to make $54.7 million next season, making him one of the highest-paid players in the league.
