Kevin Durant has not requested a trade from the Phoenix Suns, and he was reportedly caught off guard by recent reports suggesting the team has considered offers for him.
The Suns and Golden State Warriors held discussions earlier this week, but Durant expressed a strong preference not to be traded back to his former team.
Despite Durant’s disinterest in returning to the Warriors, several other teams have continued to reach out to the Suns about his potential availability as the trade deadline approaches.
This has created significant buzz across the league, with many teams exploring the possibility of adding Durant to their roster.
Shams Charania shared insights during the NBA Today Trade Deadline special, noting, “From what I’m told, there are multiple teams making aggressive trade calls on Kevin Durant.”
Durant is eligible for a contract extension this offseason, but he would otherwise become a free agent in 2026.
The Suns’ consideration of trading him stems from their struggles to find a deal involving Bradley Beal that would enable them to add Jimmy Butler alongside their existing stars, including Devin Booker.
With their plans not fully coming to fruition, the Suns have been exploring options for Durant as they look to recalibrate their roster.
So far this season, Durant has been playing at a high level for the Suns, averaging 26.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 36.2 minutes per game over 39 appearances.
He is currently making $51.2 million this season and is scheduled to earn $54.7 million next season, making him one of the highest-paid players in the league.
