Virtus Bologna has officially signed NBA veteran Justin Holiday to a three-month contract with an option for an additional year. The move adds experience and depth to the Italian club as it looks to improve its struggling EuroLeague campaign.
Holiday last played for the Denver Nuggets in the 2023-24 NBA season, where he averaged 4 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 14.9 minutes per game. The 35-year-old swingman has spent over a decade in the NBA, playing for multiple teams, including the Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, and Atlanta Hawks.
His most productive season came in 2017-18 when he averaged 12.2 points, 4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists as a starter for the Bulls. He also won NBA championship in 2015 with the Golden State Warriors.
Known for his defensive versatility and three-point shooting, Holiday brings a wealth of experience to Virtus as the club aims to turn its season around.
Following his arrival, Holiday expressed excitement about joining the team. “I am happy to be part of the team, excited to be part of the city. I can’t wait to play in front of you guys. Let’s make some wins and have a good time,” he said when addressing the team’s fans.
Virtus currently sits 16th in the EuroLeague standings with a 7-17 record. The team has struggled to find consistency this season and is looking for a spark to get back on track. Adding a seasoned veteran like Holiday could provide much-needed leadership and stability on both ends of the floor.
Holiday is part of a well-known basketball family, with his brothers Jrue and Aaron also playing in the NBA. Jrue, a two-time All-Star, is currently with the Boston Celtics, while Aaron plays for the Houston Rockets.
Virtus has been active in the transfer market, looking to reinforce its roster as it fights to climb the EuroLeague standings. Holiday’s arrival adds depth to the wing position and gives head coach Dusko Ivanovic another option in the rotation.
