The Golden State Warriors continue to tread water in the highly competitive Western Conference playoff race and have recently re-entered trade discussions as they evaluate potential moves to bolster their roster.
Following a significant win against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, key contributors Andrew Wiggins, Gary Payton II, and Kevon Looney played pivotal roles in the victory.
However, should the Warriors decide to pursue a major trade, it’s widely expected that some combination of these players would likely be included in any potential deal.
On NBA Today, Brian Windhorst addressed Golden State’s shifting position in the trade landscape.
“This is not really a replicable situation and that’s one of the reasons why you keep hearing the Warriors’ names in trade talks,” said Windhorst.
“A couple of weeks ago Steph Curry said, ‘We don’t need to do anything desperate,’ and all of a sudden they were out. But I’m telling you, in the last few days, I hear the Warriors are dipping their toes back in the trade market to make a significant move – and not necessarily for some of the names you’ve heard in the past.”
This renewed trade buzz follows a report from The Athletic indicating the Warriors have engaged in discussions regarding both Zach LaVine and Jimmy Butler.
Among Golden State’s top decision-makers, LaVine is reportedly the more appealing target for a variety of strategic factors, including his age, offensive explosiveness, and potential long-term fit alongside Curry.
