The San Antonio Spurs have actively explored opportunities to acquire elite young guards in pursuing a high-caliber playmaker to complement franchise centerpiece Victor Wembanyama.
According to Jake Fischer, the Spurs previously registered interest in Darius Garland and LaMelo Ball during past transaction windows and have now emerged as a potential destination for De’Aaron Fox, who reportedly sees San Antonio as his preferred landing spot.
In June of last year, while holding the fourth and eighth overall picks in the draft, the Spurs initiated discussions with the Cleveland Cavaliers to gauge their willingness to part ways with Garland.
However, Cleveland demonstrated little appetite for engaging in trade negotiations at that time.
Similarly, the Charlotte Hornets showed no interest in fielding offers for LaMelo Ball, who has rebounded impressively in the 2024-25 season following injury challenges in prior campaigns.
Beyond these high-profile targets, San Antonio has also kept a watchful eye on Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey, viewing him as a strong candidate to bring playmaking versatility to their evolving roster.
