The Dallas Mavericks dominated the Washington Wizards 130-108 on Monday night, with Klay Thompson stealing the show in a performance that will be remembered for years. Thompson, who scored 21 of his 23 points in the first quarter, tied a Dallas franchise record by sinking seven three-pointers in the opening period. This impressive feat matched Luka Doncic’s record set in February 2022, although Thompson holds the NBA record for most three-pointers in a quarter with nine.

Thompson, back from a two-game absence due to an ankle injury, was on fire early, helping the Mavericks (25-22) open the game with a commanding 13-2 run. By halftime, Dallas led by 38 points, with a score of 73-43. Washington, on the other hand, continued to struggle as they suffered their 14th straight loss, finishing a tough six-game road trip with a dismal 6-39 record.

Olivier-Maxence Prosper added 20 points to tie his career high, while also contributing in multiple areas with five rebounds and one assist. The Mavericks’ offense clicked in high gear, shooting 53.3% from the field and an impressive 44.4% from three-point range, compared to the Wizards’ 41.6% field goal percentage.

Despite a solid 16-point effort from Bilal Coulibaly, the Wizards had little to show for their efforts as they faced one of their heaviest defeats of the season. Rookie center Alex Sarr, who has shown promise, was limited to just 11 minutes due to left ankle soreness, further depleting Washington’s already short-handed roster.

Kyrie Irving added 13 points and five assists for the Mavericks, and Daniel Gafford, starting at center, scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Spencer Dinwiddie chipped in with eight points and nine assists in a well-rounded team performance. In a surprising turn, two-way player Kylor Kelley made his NBA debut, contributing one point and four rebounds in the final seven minutes of the game.

The Wizards’ struggle was evident, as they shot just 29.7% from beyond the arc. Jordan Poole finished with 15 points but also struggled with his shooting, making only 3 of 9 from three-point range.
