New Orleans Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray is set to undergo X-rays on his right hand to determine the severity of his latest injury.

Murray was sidelined for the Pelicans’ matchup against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday due to a sprained right index finger.

Speaking before the game, Pelicans head coach Willie Green explained that the decision to proceed with X-rays was made to ensure no underlying damage had occurred beyond the sprain.

This injury is the latest in a string of setbacks for the veteran guard, who has had a tumultuous season marked by injuries.

Earlier in the year, Murray missed 17 games after suffering a broken left hand during the Pelicans’ season opener. His return from that injury was a turning point for the team, as he quickly reestablished himself as a crucial contributor to their lineup.

Murray had played every game since his recovery, demonstrating resilience and consistency until this recent hand issue forced him back off the court.

Unfortunately, this marks Murray’s 18th missed game of the season, which has broader implications for his career.

Under league rules, he is now ineligible for postseason awards, regardless of his overall performance during the games he played.

This also impacts his contractual incentives, as he will fall short of specific bonuses tied to games played and statistical benchmarks such as scoring, assists, and defensive markers.
