In an effort to refine his game and elevate his team’s performance, Anthony Edwards recently reached out to NBA legend Michael Jordan for guidance on dealing with double teams.

ESPN’s Mark Jones shared the news during the Timberwolves’ matchup with the Nuggets, revealing that Edwards was seeking advice on how to better handle the intense defensive pressure he’s been facing this season, per Kurt Helin of NBC Sports.

The 23-year-old Timberwolves star, who is currently putting up a career-high 26.3 points per game, has been encountering frustrations with opposing defenses collapsing on him. Known for his scoring ability and playmaking, Edwards has found himself the focal point of many defensive schemes, resulting in increased traps and double teams. In his search for solutions, Edwards turned to the greatest of all time for advice.

According to sources within Edwards’ circle, the young guard reached out to Jordan three weeks ago to get insight into how Jordan handled similar challenges during his career. As one of the most dominant offensive players in NBA history, Jordan’s ability to break through double teams was a key factor in his success. Edwards reportedly hoped to gain wisdom on how to not only deal with the defensive pressure but also maintain his effectiveness in tough situations.

Despite his stellar individual performances, the Timberwolves are struggling as a team. With a 24-21 record, they sit seventh in the Western Conference, just a step above .500. Minnesota, which reached the conference finals in 2024, is facing difficulties in translating Edwards’ success into consistent wins.

Edwards’ current season has been impressive, with averages of 26.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in 36.7 minutes per game.
