Stephen Curry silenced doubters with a standout performance in the Golden State Warriors’ 116-115 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night. Curry, who finished with 31 points and seven three-pointers, addressed recent criticism after the game, saying, “We know we can be competitive … we showed that toughness tonight.”
The Warriors, now 20-20, avoided a third consecutive loss by holding off a furious comeback from Minnesota, who fell to 21-19. Curry’s late-game heroics, including clutch free throws, were pivotal in the hard-fought win.
Golden State built an early 26-5 lead by hitting eight of their first 12 three-point attempts. Andrew Wiggins shined against his former team, scoring 24 points and making critical plays to support the Warriors’ hot start.
However, Minnesota refused to back down. Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo, each contributing 28 points, led the Timberwolves’ rally. A layup by DiVincenzo cut the Warriors’ lead to one point with 12.1 seconds remaining, but Golden State held on to secure the win.
Wiggins came up big in crunch time, grabbing a vital offensive rebound after Gary Payton II missed a free throw. Payton, who tallied seven points and six rebounds, also made key defensive stops in the final moments.
Golden State’s shooting efficiency proved crucial, as they connected on 50% of their three-point attempts and converted 85.7% of their free throws. Buddy Hield added 18 points, including three three-pointers, while Moses Moody provided 11 points off the bench.
For the Timberwolves, Julius Randle chipped in 17 points and six rebounds, while Naz Reid added 15 points in a solid bench effort. Despite their resilience, Minnesota’s sluggish start – missing their first eight shots – ultimately cost them the game.
Curry, addressing critics postgame, emphasized the team’s confidence despite an up-and-down season. “All the Twitter fingers who’s got deals that we need to make can kind of shut up a little bit and let us figure this thing out,” Curry said.
The Warriors, battling injuries to key players like Draymond Green and Jonathan Kuminga, showed their depth and toughness against Minnesota. Curry reiterated the team’s belief in their potential, saying, “We have a whole lot of confidence that we can beat anybody.”
