In a thrilling showdown on Monday night, Anthony Edwards led the Minnesota Timberwolves (18-17) to a 108-106 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers (20-16). Edwards scored 28 of his career-high 37 points in the second half, spearheading a comeback from a 19-point first-half deficit.
Edwards was on fire, finishing 14 of 29 from the field, including a pair of clutch three-pointers in the final minutes. The Timberwolves snapped a three-game losing streak with this win, thanks in part to strong performances from Naz Reid, who scored 18 points off the bench, and Donte DiVincenzo, who added 15.
Rudy Gobert also contributed with eight points and a game-high 18 rebounds. His presence in the paint helped Minnesota out-rebound the Clippers 55-49.
Los Angeles, despite a strong effort from Norman Powell (25 points), James Harden (22 points), and Ivica Zubac (17 points, 16 rebounds), suffered another setback, losing three of their last four games.
The game had its share of drama in the closing moments. With the Timberwolves trailing by one, Edwards drilled a step-back three-pointer with 1:12 remaining to give Minnesota a two-point lead. After Zubac missed a layup on the ensuing possession, Edwards sealed the victory with another three-pointer, making it 106-101 with 34.4 seconds left.
In a crucial blow for the Clippers, Kawhi Leonard, playing his second game since returning from a knee injury, struggled with his shooting, finishing with just eight points on 3-of-11 shooting. Leonard’s performance added to Los Angeles’ woes as the team continues to battle injuries.
The Timberwolves’ lineup adjustments also played a key role. DiVincenzo, starting in place of Mike Conley, provided steady playmaking and solid defense. Conley came off the bench for the first time in his Timberwolves career and finished with 11 points.
Minnesota’s offensive depth proved too much for the Clippers. While Powell, Harden, and Zubac did their best to keep Los Angeles in the game, their efforts fell short. Edwards’ dominance in the second half was a defining factor in the Timberwolves’ comeback.
