The FAA has launched an investigation following a near-miss at LAX involving a chartered plane carrying the Gonzaga men’s basketball team and a Delta aircraft.
The incident occurred shortly after the team’s Embraer E135 jet landed at the airport from Spokane, Washington, on Friday, ahead of their game against UCLA.
In a video uploaded to YouTube by videographer Kevin Ray, an air traffic controller can be heard urgently shouting, “Stop! Stop! Stop!” to prevent a potential collision. The moment left Ray stunned.
“In all the years I’ve been doing this, I’ve never heard an ATC controller say ‘Stop, stop, stop,’” he said.
The FAA is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident, which highlights the critical role of air traffic controllers in averting dangerous situations.
