Turkish guard Furkan Korkmaz has officially left AS Monaco, the French basketball team announced in a statement. The 27-year-old and the club mutually agreed to terminate his contract after an injury-plagued stint that limited his contributions.
Korkmaz joined Monaco in August, bringing NBA experience to the EuroLeague contenders. However, a right adductor tear in October sidelined him for an extended period, disrupting his ability to perform at his usual level.
During his time with Monaco, Korkmaz appeared in only three EuroLeague games. He averaged 4.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 12 minutes per contest, falling short of the impact the team hoped for when they signed him.
The departure comes as Monaco continues to excel in the EuroLeague, currently sitting in second place with a record of 11-6. The team has leaned on its depth and star players, including Mike James, to maintain its position among the league’s elite.
Korkmaz’s career has been marked by his sharpshooting and versatility, traits that earned him a spot in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers. He spent seven seasons in the league, averaging 6.8 points and 2 rebounds while shooting 35.6% from beyond the arc.
