The New York Knicks have decided to bring back forward Matt Ryan on a two-way contract after waiving him earlier this month. NBA insider Michael Scotto broke the news, revealing that Ryan will rejoin the team once he clears waivers.

To make room for Ryan, the Knicks will waive Boo Buie, who had occupied one of the team’s two-way spots. Ryan has consistently showcased his shooting ability throughout his career, hitting 39.7% from beyond the arc in his NBA stints.

The 27-year-old forward initially joined the Knicks on November 4, following a standout performance in the G League. Selected first overall in the 2024 NBA G League Draft by the Westchester Knicks, Ryan earned his way onto New York’s roster.

Despite limited opportunities, Ryan has appeared in nine games for the Knicks this season. He averaged 1.7 points in just 5 minutes per game, often serving as a floor-spacing option off the bench.

The Knicks’ decision to re-sign Ryan comes at a time when his shooting could provide additional depth for the team. With New York currently competing for playoff positioning, reliable three-point shooters like Ryan could play a pivotal role in close contests.

Ryan’s NBA journey has been marked by perseverance, with stints in the G League, NBA, and overseas leagues. His return to New York signals the team’s faith in his ability to contribute under head coach Tom Thibodeau.
