Moe Wagner has been officially ruled out for the remainder of the 2024-25 NBA season after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee.
The injury took place during the Orlando Magic’s victory over the Miami Heat on Saturday, a game in which Wagner’s impact had been felt before the unfortunate setback.
The loss is a significant blow to the Magic, as Wagner had been a key piece of their rotation, providing scoring and energy off the bench.
Before the injury, Wagner was enjoying a career-best season, averaging 12.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 0.8 steals in just 18.8 minutes per game.
His efficient production and ability to energize the team made him a strong candidate for the Sixth Man of the Year award, highlighting his value to Orlando’s success. His consistent performances had been pivotal in elevating the Magic into playoff contention this year.
The injury also raises questions about Wagner’s future with the team. The Magic hold a team option on his contract for the 2025-26 season, leaving the front office with a decision to make regarding his long-term place in the organization.
At 27 years old – turning 28 in April – Wagner still has time to recover and contribute at a high level, assuming his rehabilitation goes as planned.
In addition to his on-court contributions, Wagner is known for his leadership and connection with his younger brother, Franz Wagner, who is also a standout player for the Magic. The brothers have formed a unique bond on and off the court, which has resonated with fans and teammates alike.
Wagner is represented by agents Jason Glushon and Joey Pennavaria, who will undoubtedly work with the Magic and other stakeholders to determine the best path forward for his career.
