Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes is expected to miss several weeks due to a right ankle injury sustained on Monday during a home loss to the Knicks.
Barnes injured his ankle when Karl-Anthony Towns landed on his foot after a contested shot. The 2022 Rookie of the Year was unable to put weight on his right foot and had to be helped off the court.
Barnes, who was already sidelined earlier this season with a right orbital fracture, was seen in a walking boot and will undergo additional imaging. The Raptors are expected to provide an update soon, but reports indicate a prolonged absence for the 23-year-old.
The player has been playing at a career-high level, averaging 20.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 7.4 assists in 14 games. His absence will impact the Raptors, but as they are in a rebuilding phase, it may improve their draft position.
Additionally, missing extended time could affect the young star’s eligibility for All-NBA honors, lowering the value of his rookie extension.
With Barnes out, players like RJ Barrett, Gradey Dick, Jonathan Mogbo, Chris Boucher, and Jamison Battle are expected to step up, while Bruce Brown is set to make his season debut and contribute to filling the void.
