D’Angelo Russell, the star guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, has shown interest in representing Lithuania in FIBA international tournaments.

As reported by Rokas Pakenas of 15min and confirmed by BasketNews sources, Russell has expressed a desire to play for Lithuania.

The possibility of Russell joining Lithuania’s national team was brought to the attention of Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda by the parents of Matas Buzelis, a first-round draft pick for the Chicago Bulls, during their visit to the Presidential Palace.

Russell’s connection to Lithuania comes through his partner, Laura Ivaniukas, who is of Lithuanian heritage.

This connection could potentially facilitate the process of obtaining Lithuanian citizenship, a requirement for playing for a country’s national team.
