JaVale McGee has officially signed with the Shanghai Sharks, joining fellow NBA veteran D’Angelo Russell on the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) team’s roster.
Russell’s arrival in Shanghai was confirmed earlier this week after the Memphis Grizzlies waived the 30-year-old guard on September 25.
Interestingly, both players have represented the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks during their NBA careers, although their respective stints with those franchises never overlapped.
McGee, 38, last appeared in the NBA during the 2023–24 season, playing 46 games for the Sacramento Kings and averaging 4.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.4 assists in 7.4 minutes per contest.
The veteran center subsequently continued his career overseas, spending time in Australia and Puerto Rico before joining the Beijing Ducks for the 2025–26 CBA campaign.
In 26 appearances for Beijing, McGee recorded averages of 11.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
Selected with the 18th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, McGee played 909 regular-season games across 16 NBA seasons, averaging 7.6 points and 5.0 rebounds in 16.1 minutes per contest.
