Joel Embiid is reportedly on a mission to uncover which Philadelphia 76ers teammate leaked details of a private players-only meeting.
The meeting, which occurred after the team’s disappointing loss to the Miami Heat, included a confrontation where Tyrese Maxey called out Embiid for his tendency to be late to team activities.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, a source close to Embiid revealed that the All-Star center was “going to be furious” about the leak and would try to find the teammate responsible.
Embiid later expressed his frustration publicly, telling reporters, “Whoever leaked that is a real piece of sh*t,” after the Sixers’ 117-111 loss to Memphis on Wednesday.
Several team officials believe Embiid’s remarks were aimed at addressing the situation privately.
This internal conflict comes amid the 76ers’ ongoing struggles, which have left them with a 2-12 record, placing them at the bottom of the NBA standings.
With key players such as Embiid, Maxey, and newly acquired Paul George missing games due to injuries, the team has struggled to find any consistency on the court.
Embiid has only played in three games this season, while Maxey and George have suited up for just seven. Their absences have made it harder for the Sixers to get back on track, adding frustration that may have contributed to the tense internal conversation.
Despite the controversy surrounding the leaked meeting, teammates Reggie Jackson and Paul George have both described the session as a positive one.
Jackson emphasized that it was a healthy discussion, with no negativity involved, and George agreed, saying the team was simply working through their struggles in a constructive manner.
The leak, however, has left Embiid and others feeling betrayed. As the team continues to grapple with their poor start, the search for the source of the leak could add more tension to an already difficult situation.
