Washington Wizards guard Malcolm Brogdon is poised to make his long-awaited season debut, potentially as soon as Sunday against the Detroit Pistons.

Brogdon, who has been sidelined while recovering from a thumb injury, has officially been removed from the Wizards’ injury report for the upcoming game.

The Wizards acquired Brogdon during the offseason in a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers. The deal also brought rookie guard Bub Carrington to Washington, while Deni Avdija headed to Portland.

Brogdon, a seasoned veteran, joined the Wizards with the expectation that his experience and leadership would bolster a young and rebuilding roster.

For the Wizards, Brogdon’s return comes at a pivotal time. The team hopes his presence in the backcourt will bring stability and mentorship to their younger players.

Additionally, Washington views the 30-year-old combo guard as a potential trade asset. With an expiring $22.5 million contract, Brogdon could attract interest from teams looking for a reliable, proven player as the season progresses.

If Brogdon can demonstrate he’s fully recovered and performing at a high level, he may play a dual role: helping Washington’s development efforts in the short term while increasing his value on the trade market.

This balance could make him a key figure in shaping the Wizards’ future, both on the court and in potential transactions.
