The Dallas Mavericks snapped a four-game losing streak with a 110-93 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night. Kyrie Irving and Daniel Gafford each scored 22 points to propel Dallas to a crucial win.
The Spurs played without their star rookie Victor Wembanyama, sidelined with a bruised right knee sustained in Friday’s loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Zach Collins stepped up in Wembanyama’s absence, scoring a season-high 20 points, but it wasn’t enough to keep San Antonio competitive.
Dallas capitalized on Wembanyama’s absence by dominating the paint, outscoring the Spurs 46-22 through three quarters. The Mavericks’ bench contributed a season-high 54 points.
Irving returned from a right shoulder sprain to deliver a strong performance, adding eight rebounds and six assists.
Luka Doncic, who entered the game averaging 29.3 points, was held to 16 points but contributed six rebounds and six assists in just 28 minutes.
San Antonio kept the game close early, with Julian Champagnie scoring all 13 of his points in the first half.
The Mavericks dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Spurs 38-18 while shooting 59.1% from the field. Their defensive intensity limited San Antonio to 22.7% shooting during that span.
Collins, despite his scoring effort, struggled from beyond the arc, missing all five of his three-point attempts. The Spurs collectively shot just 27.5% from deep, a sharp contrast to the Mavericks’ well-rounded offensive display.
Gafford’s efficient 9-for-10 shooting highlighted his best scoring performance of the season. Jaden Hardy added 12 points off the bench, and Dallas saw contributions from players like P.J. Washington Jr., who provided crucial defense.
The Spurs have now lost three straight games and sit at 6-8 on the season. Dallas improved to 6-7 and looks to build momentum after breaking their skid.
