The Westchester Knicks, the G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, strategically chose forward Matt Ryan and guard Landry Shamet as the top two picks in the 2024 G League Draft.

Initially holding the first overall pick, Westchester made an additional trade to secure the second pick, enabling them to select both players back-to-back.

This move emphasizes the organization’s commitment to adding proven talent to their G League roster, with the hopes of strengthening their player development pipeline and possibly identifying assets for the Knicks’ NBA roster.

Landry Shamet, a veteran shooting guard with significant NBA experience, joined the New York Knicks in training camp and appeared to have a good chance of making the regular-season roster.

However, a dislocated shoulder in the final stages of the preseason sidelined him temporarily.

Now part of the Knicks organization through Westchester, Shamet’s recovery can be carefully monitored, providing him with a structured pathway back to full health and, potentially, to a future spot with the NBA team once his rehabilitation is complete.

In addition to Shamet, the New York Knicks have also expressed interest in Matt Ryan, a highly regarded sharpshooter known for his accuracy from beyond the arc.

Ryan has demonstrated consistent shooting proficiency throughout his time in both the NBA and the G League, where he has hit nearly 40% of his three-point attempts.

The Knicks, looking to enhance their perimeter scoring, may find Ryan an appealing option should they decide to bring him up to the NBA roster.

Despite being selected by the Westchester Knicks, both Ryan and Shamet remain free agents in the NBA, leaving open the possibility for them to join an NBA team at any point during the season.

Their availability as G League standouts and experienced players keeps them on the radar as viable options for the Knicks or other teams seeking midseason additions.
