The Los Angeles Lakers have signed guard Quincy Olivari to a two-way contract, marking a significant decision for the franchise. This move comes as the team waived center Colin Castleton, highlighting the roster adjustments ahead of the upcoming season.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick commented on the transition, stating, “We’re excited for Quincy. Really appreciative of Colin [Castleton], the work that he’s put in here. Just felt like, given our roster construction and Quincy’s play in preseason, he was deserving of a two-way contract.”
Redick emphasized that the organization values players who align with their goals and culture, saying “We’re excited of having him in our program and think he’s about the right things, which is the type of people we’re trying to bring in here. And that’s not to say Colin wasn’t about the right things either. Colin and I had a conversation yesterday, we’re really appreciative of Colin.”
Olivari earned his contract after impressing in the preseason, where he shot an impressive 57% from beyond the arc. His strong performance solidified his position on the Lakers’ roster as they look to enhance their backcourt depth for the upcoming season.
Originally undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft, Olivari signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Lakers in August. His transition to a two-way deal reflects the team’s confidence in his abilities, allowing him to split time between the NBA and the G League.
Prior to joining the Lakers, Olivari had a notable collegiate career, playing four seasons at Rice University and one at Xavier. During his final season at Rice, he led the team in scoring, averaging 18.7 points per game. His scoring prowess ranked him third in Conference USA, making him a standout player in the conference.
At Xavier, Olivari continued to shine, averaging 19.1 points per game. He excelled in three-point shooting, leading the Big East Conference with a conversion rate of 40.9%. His consistent performance earned him Big East Honorable Mention honors, capping off a successful college basketball journey.
Olivari participated in four preseason games for Los Angeles, averaging 8.7 points per game. His performance peaked during the preseason finale against the Golden State Warriors, where he scored 22 points in 39 minutes of action.
