Anthony Davis enters the 2024-25 NBA season with a renewed focus on dominance after winning his second gold medal with Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Davis expressed his intention to elevate his game this season, stating, “Being aggressive every time I’m on the floor, being dominant every game. Doing my job, doing my part in helping this team do what we got to do, whether that’s taking on a matchup defensively, taking on a role offensively, being the leader of the team, carrying us in games, playoffs, whatever it takes.” He emphasized his role in leading the Los Angeles Lakers and contributing to the team’s overall success.
The forward reflected on his responsibilities, saying, “Doing my job, doing my part in helping this team do what we got to do.” He recognizes the importance of team dynamics and aims to contribute defensively and offensively.
Last season, Davis signed a three-year contract extension with the Lakers on August 4, 2023. He made a significant impact throughout the year, culminating in the Lakers’ victory in the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament. In the championship game, he recorded an impressive 41 points and 20 rebounds against the Indiana Pacers.
Davis’s performance continued to shine in 2024, where he notched a season-high 41 points in a thrilling win over the Toronto Raptors. In a notable game against the Utah Jazz, Davis recorded his second career triple-double. This achievement came alongside a stellar season that earned him a spot as a reserve in the 2024 NBA All-Star Game. He averaged 24.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 35.5 minutes per game last season.
The Lakers had a rollercoaster 2023-24 season, finishing with a 47-35 record. After facing the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs, the team was eliminated, leading to a reevaluation of their coaching staff. In May, the Lakers parted ways with head coach Darvin Ham and hired former player JJ Redick.
