The New York Knicks have officially waived forwards Chuma Okeke, Landry Shamet, and T.J. Warren. All three players were part of the Knicks’ preseason roster but did not secure a spot for the regular season.
Okeke, who signed with the Knicks in August, was waived twice within a month. Okeke re-signed with New York on October 2 after being waived in September but was released again on October 19. The 25-year-old forward struggled to make an impact during the preseason, scoring just one point in three games. Last season, Okeke averaged 2.3 points and 1.7 rebounds in 9.2 minutes per game for the Orlando Magic.
Shamet also failed to lock down a roster spot after appearing in four preseason games for the Knicks. Shamet averaged 10.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per game during the preseason. The 27-year-old guard, known for his three-point shooting, spent last season with the Washington Wizards, where he posted averages of 7.1 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 15.8 minutes per game. Despite his solid preseason, Shamet was unable to secure a role in the Knicks’ crowded backcourt rotation. As of late,
he has been sidelined with a dislocated right shoulder.
Warren, who joined the Knicks during the offseason, was also waived after three preseason games. The veteran forward averaged 4.2 points and 2.6 rebounds during his preseason stint with New York. Last season, Warren appeared in 11 games for the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he averaged 3.7 points and 2 rebounds in limited playing time. Injuries have hampered Warren’s career since his standout performances in the 2020 NBA Bubble, and his latest stint with the Knicks did not lead to a permanent role.
