As the Miami Heat gear up for the 2024-25 NBA season, head coach Erik Spoelstra is optimistic about improving the team’s health. Injuries have plagued the Heat over the last two seasons, forcing them to use a franchise-record 30 different starting lineups in 2023.

During the team’s media day, Spoelstra discussed the steps the organization has taken to address the ongoing injury issues. “We spent a great deal of time analyzing it, reviewing it, and putting things into different buckets,” he said. “We think it will be better this year, and sometimes you just have to breathe that into existence.”

Spoelstra noted that the Heat have focused on controllable factors, such as player protocols and conditioning. However, he acknowledged that some injuries are beyond control. The long-time coach hopes that adjustments made in the offseason will translate to improved player availability.

Miami’s injury struggles were a major talking point during the offseason. Tyler Herro, who played just 40 games last season, emphasized the importance of staying healthy during the upcoming season. Star forward Jimmy Butler also missed significant time, playing only 60 games and missing the entire playoffs.

As the Heat enter training camp in the Bahamas, their focus remains on limiting injuries and building consistency. Spoelstra is confident that the steps they’ve taken will result in a healthier season, though it remains to be seen whether those efforts will pay off.
