Russell Westbrook has found a new home with the Denver Nuggets after parting ways with the Los Angeles Clippers this offseason.
The former MVP signed a two-year deal with the 2023 NBA champions and is ready to embrace his role on the team.
During the Nuggets’ media day press conference, Westbrook shared his excitement about joining a team that has consistently been at the top of the Western Conference.
“This team has always been at the top of the Western Conference, always contending. They play the right brand of basketball,” Westbrook explained, via Harrison Wind.
He also spoke about the opportunity to play alongside three-time MVP Nikola Jokic, describing it as an honor.
“To be on the floor with him is an honor. I’m grateful for that,” Westbrook said when asked about Jokic.
One of Westbrook’s main responsibilities will be helping point guard Jamal Murray continue to improve his game.
“My job is to push Jamal to be the best he can be,” Westbrook stated, signaling his leadership role in guiding the Nuggets’ backcourt.
At 35 years old, Westbrook’s contributions may not mirror the high-scoring stat lines of his MVP days, but his experience and veteran presence could be invaluable for the Nuggets.
Last season with the Clippers, Westbrook averaged 11.1 points, 5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 22.5 minutes per game.
Westbrook’s transition to Denver represents a chance for him to contribute to a championship-caliber team while taking on a mentorship role.
