The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Christian Koloko to a two-way contract, marking his return to the NBA after a 17-month hiatus.
Koloko, 24, has been out of action due to a serious blood clot issue that sidelined him for the entire 2023 season.
The center, originally the 33rd pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, last played for the Toronto Raptors.
In January, Toronto waived Koloko, placing him under the NBA’s Fitness-to-Play panel for health evaluations.
Recent medical updates have given hope for Koloko’s return, as doctors have cleared him for full-contact drills.
While awaiting final approval from the NBA, Koloko shared his optimism about his recovery and return to the league.
“I feel amazing,” the Cameroonian center told TMZ, reflecting his confidence in the progress of his health.
Koloko remains hopeful that the NBA will grant him full clearance soon, and he expressed optimism for his return to professional basketball.
“We’re pretty optimistic. Hopefully, everything goes well,” Koloko said, regarding the NBA’s decision.
He emphasized his readiness to contribute to the Lakers, expressing his desire to help the team succeed.
“I’m just gonna come in ready,” Koloko stated, “Be ready to do whatever it takes to have the team win, and that’s the goal — win!”
Koloko’s signing offers the Lakers additional depth at the center position as they prepare for the upcoming season.
