Track and field sprinter Noah Lyles expressed his frustration with Adidas after being invited to Anthony Edwards’ shoe-release event.
Lyles, a six-time World Champion and Olympic gold medalist, felt disrespected by the invitation, given Edwards’ limited achievements compared to his own.
In an interview with Sean Gregory of TIME, Lyles questioned the logic behind the invitation, stating, “You want to invite me to [an event for] a man who has not even been to an NBA Finals? In a sport that you don’t even care about?”
He added that while he respects Edwards’ talent, he wondered why Adidas did not recognize his own accomplishments.
Adidas did not respond to Lyles’ comments; however, Lyles recently signed a new deal with the company, reported to be the most lucrative track-and-field contract since Usain Bolt.
