Pablo Laso, a two-time EuroLeague champion coach, has left FC Bayern Munich after a brief tenure of just one year.

Under Laso’s guidance, Bayern won the German Cup, finished 15th in the EuroLeague with a record of 13-21 and secured the German Basketball League title.

Laso’s departure comes after a surprising personal decision, driven by family reasons, prompting Bayern to honor his wish to terminate his contract originally slated until summer 2025. The 56-year-old Spaniard approached the club over the past weekend with his request.

FC Bayern Basketball’s managing director Marko Pesic expressed respect for Laso’s decision, acknowledging his significant contributions during the successful season.

Pesic wished Laso well in his future endeavors, emphasizing his lasting connection with the club despite the unexpected departure.

Joining Bayern a year ago, Laso, a longtime coach for Real Madrid, ventured outside Spain for the first time in his career.

Laso’s stint with Bayern followed a departure from Real Madrid due to medical reasons in July 2022. He had suffered a heart attack during the 2022 ACB Playoffs, necessitating a hospital stay and medical advice against continuing coaching. Despite this setback, Laso returned to coaching last summer with Bayern.
