Kristaps Porzingis, the Boston Celtics’ forward, is facing a significant setback after undergoing surgery to repair a torn retinaculum and dislocated posterior tibialis tendon.

According to Tim Bontemps, Porzingis is expected to be sidelined for “5-to-6 months,” extending well into the start of the upcoming NBA season.

The injury occurred during the Celtics’ playoff run, where they secured the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

Porzingis sustained a strained calf during Game 4 against the Miami Heat, forcing him to miss the remainder of that series.

Subsequently, he was absent for the Celtics’ matchups against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers in the following rounds.

Despite the setbacks, Porzingis made a return during the NBA Finals against his former team, the Dallas Mavericks. In Game 1, he came off the bench to score 18 points in the first half.

However, his postseason journey took a turn in Game 2 when he suffered a new injury to his left leg—a torn medial retinaculum allowing dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon.
